Volcanoes formed the most of lesser intilles islands of the West Indies, as they are part of an underwater chain of mountains. The earths crust has also formed the islands in the greater intilles, including Cuba and Jamacia. Also, the Bahamas are created by up lifting sand and coral. This is why some of the islands here are oddly shaped. Once the coral reaches the surface, some of it dies and causes the islands to look like an "O", a "C" or a backwards "C".

The major industries in the West Indies is tourism and farming. Tourism is very important to the region, especially the small resturants and shops. Tourism keeps these small shops in buisness. It also helps certain countries as a whole. Farming is also important to the region because it gives the island and surrounding islands food.

The first permanent settlement was in Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic. This settlement was founded in 1496, which was when it was discovered, but it wasn't official until 1498.

The three archipelagos are the Bahamas, Greater Antilles, and Lesser Antilles. The Bahamas are located off the coast of Florida, and it consists of low islands. The greater antilles consist of islands like Jamacia and Cuba, and they are continental islands. Lastly, the lesser antilles consist of lots of islands, some low, some high, and some continental.
3. History- Name four groups who have influenced the culture of the Caribbean region.
The Spaniards, English, French, and the Dutch have influenced the culture of the Caribbean region.
4. Government- How is Cuba different from every other country in the Western Hemisphere?
Cuba is different because it is in a communist state, where government leaders have control of the economy and society. The Cuban government became communist in 1959.
