Yellow group D2 B3
As we woke up the next day, everyone was excited for the big hike that we were all going to do today. We got dressed and ready for the hike that was coming. For breakfast that morning we had bacon, eggs, and muffins. The breakfast was served on a bunch of big plates that were put in each table. After breakfast each hiking group got their lunch bag put together. Then we all gathered outside and got with our hiking group. Then we were off onto the Manning Trail. We didn't go very far onto the Manning Trail before we had to do our first transect and sketch. We spent about 10 minutes doing the transect and sketch and then we started moving again. Each day we had to sketch about 6 sketches. My sketch book we found at our house and then I brought it up to Cardigan. We stopped every 300 feet in elevation for each transect. To do our transects we took a rope from the Cardigan Lodge a brought it up Firescrew and back down Mount Cardigan. This is an example of movement. We walked up Firescrew, looking at all birch and beech on the way up. Once we were close to the summit of Firescrew, we saw cariens along the rocks that showed us where to go. On the summit of Firescrew, we saw a man with his dog who moved from the summit of Mount Cardigan to the summit of Firescrew and then hiked back down Firescrew. He moved with his dog up and down Mount Cardigan. As we were eating lunch on Firescrew, a helicopter start flying around us and even landed on Firescrew! We were so close to it! Once it had left, we gathered up our stuff, a little bit sad that the helicopter had left, but also very excited that we were going to be on hiking to Mount Cardigan where some of our friends already were. We had to go across the ridge that was between the two mountains. It took us about 15 minutes to go across the ridge and up Cardigan. When I got to the top of Cardigan, we met with our friends and took lots of pictures. Then we parted ways and headed back down the mountains. We left the summit of Mount Cardigan and started to head back to the AMC Lodge. On our way back down, we went down a very steep part of the trail where there were lots of ferns. Fern, our group leader, told us that baby ferns were called fiddleheads. After that, we then started to call ourselves the "Fiddleheads". We also came upon a bridge that crossed over a river on the hike back down. We saw that a stick and leaves we preventing the water to flow, so we moved them and watched the rush of water come down the river. We soon arrived back at the lodge. We thanked Fern for taking us on an awesome hike and then went inside and changed into more comfortable clothes.
Once all the other groups had come back from their hike and we were all settled in, we got prepared for dinner. For dinner that day we were having lasagna. The lasagna was very good, and that's saying a lot because I don't usually like lasagna. After dinner we got all bundled up and went outside by the firepit. We sang songs, listened to stories, and made up funny skits about our trip earlier that day. We had a great time, laughing and dancing, just being kids. Then we went back inside and Mr. Woolner told us a few stories that his brother had written. We read 2 very short stories about nature and his brothers past experiences. Once all the stories were done, Mr. Woolner sent us up to our bunk rooms so we could go to sleep.
