Day 3

On the morning of the third and last day at the AMC Lodge, we had a delightful breakfast of french toast and hot chocolate. We talked about the day ahead of us and made sure everyone ate all the food on their plate. We wanted to do this so we would have no ort, and so we don't waste food. After we cleaned up the mess we made at breakfast, we went back up to our rooms and made sure we had all our bags packed and that we were leaving nothing behind. We then brought our bags back down to the front of the lodge and loaded all the bags, but our hiking bags, into Mr. Woolners trailer. Then we went back inside, got our lunch bags, and were off on our hike. Today, we were going to Welton Falls. On the way there we ate wintergreen plants and wood sorrel. We also jumped rocks that were in the river when we stopped for our snack break. At one point in the hike, we had to cross the river. We went one at a time, air high fiving each other when we got to the other side. Along the river we also saw cariens, which are things that hikers had made in the path to show which way to go. Some of us even made some of our own cariens! Cariens are an example of human environment interaction. When we came upon the waterfall, we all sat down and sketched what we saw that was interesting. I sketched the waterfall and the rocks around it. The waterfall helps humans by giving them water. This is good because we need water to stay alive. Once we had finished sketching, we started to walk back to the lodge. There were steps in the woods that helped us up steep parts of the hike. They were made from roots and dirt, which is a way of the environment helping humans. We stopped one last time to sketch the trees that had fallen off a ledge and into the river. Then we headed back up the to the lodge. We stopped to each lunch in a campsite close to the lodge. We also talked about our most favorite thing we did while we were there. Mine was making it to the summit of Mount Cardigan and seeing my friends. Once everyone was back to the lodge, we loaded up, said goodbye to our awesome group leaders, and then left to go back to Contoocook. On the bus ride back, we talked about how much fun the trip was and played lots of games. We were soon back to the school. We got our bags, returned anything we borrowed, and left to go back home.
