Yellow group D2 B3
Location
The AMC lodge is surrounded by lush forest and amazing scenery. The AMC Mount Cardigan Lodge is located east of Orange and south east of Dorchester. It is also north of Andover and north west of Tilton. The latitude and longitude of the AMC Lodge is N 43 degrees, 38 minutes, and 58.1 seconds and W 71 degrees, 52 minutes, and 52.9 seconds. Its address is 774 Shem Valley Road, Alexandria, NH. The AMC Lodge is also west of Newfound Lake and north east of Gile State Forest. The Lodge is also near the Bailey Brook and Welton Falls.
While at Cardigan, we also saw a helicopter from the National Guard flying around and practicing its landing. While on the summit of Cardigan, we saw the fire tower that overlooked other mountains and the AMC Lodge, the US geodetic markers imprinted into the rocks, and the signatures and dates that were also imprinted up there. Something that also made the trail to and from Cardigan was all the blazes and cairns that were on the trail that told us which way to go. There were also trail signs on the major parts of the trail. Also, when we went to Welton Falls, there was a metal fence that was around the waterfall and the cave-like area. Lastly, something special about Mount Cardigan is the rock cellar from years ago and the lots of campsites along the trail. Those are the many characteristics of Mount Cardigan and the AMC Lodge that make it special.
The session two group was at Cardigan for three days on Wednesday, September 28, Thursday, September 29, and Friday, September 30 2016.
Place
When we went up to Mount Cardigan, there we a lot of special and unique things about it. One of the things that made Cardigan special was all the spruce and hobble bush we found on the side of the trail. It was also cool to see the alpine bog on top of Firescrew. Another thing that is different is that on top of Cardigan and Firescrew there is lots of rocks. Both mountains have bare granite summits. Another few special things about Cardigan is that it is in the false alpine zone, it is nearby to Welton Falls, and there is a saddle between Mount Cardigan and Firescrew. Mount Cardigan also has lots of indian cucumbers, beech and birch trees, hobble bushes, and ash trees. There is also a pond next to the AMC Cardigan Lodge.
