On day one of our Mount Cardigan trip, we all gathered at HMHS to board the bus heading to the AMC lodge. When we arrived, we got our bags out of the back of Mr. Woolner's car and went to meet the AMC guides and play a prey and predators game, similar to dodgeball. After the games, we unpacked, and got ready to go on a small hike with our groups that we formed earlier. My group decided to go to Welton Falls, a waterfall a short hike away. While hiking, we crossed a bridge, searched for macro invertebrates in a river, and came across lots of interesting trees and plants such as American Beech, Striped Maple, and hobblebush. When we reached the falls, we ate lunch on the rocks surrounding it. The waterfall was amazing, but the water levels were low because of the drought that occurred on the trip. After hiking back to the lodge, everyone had free time for about an hour and a half before dinner. In that free time, my bunkmates and I build a fort and used the extra time to finish unpacking. For dinner, we had spaghetti and meatballs, and they were both really good. When dinner was done, we gathered back into our groups for a night hike. The first activity we did was hiking with blindfolds, which was a lot of fun! We ended up near a pond close to the lodge, and then sat and stargazed. It was a clear night, and the stars were beautiful. We saw three shooting stars and many satellites. After going inside and listening to a story, It was time for bed. Day one's theme of geography was movement. Movement is when a person or a thing moves from one place to another. We moved from HMHS to the AMC lodge, and onto the hiking trails. Day one was a lot of fun, and I could not wait for Day 2.
Monday, Day 2.
