the second day

Day 2 at Cardigan Mountain.

My second day at Cardigan started with the sound of a fight in the bunk below me. As I sat up I hit my head on the ceiling. After getting up we went down stairs for cocoa and breakfast; eggs, bacon, muffins, and juice. We then made lunch for the hike up Cardigan once in our hiking groups we set off up the Mountain. Ocational we stopped to draw something or for a water break. We soon reached P.J. Ledge and stopped for lunch and to draw. A short while later we got to a region of spruce fir and red maple trees. We stopped to do a tree count. All of us were wanting to reach the summit real bad and soon it was in our sites. Just 250 more feet to the top, I thought. But with my heavy backpack it felt like forever. Finally after 1.5 miles of hiking up, we reached the bare rock summit. After a short break we went down into the valley between Cardigan and Fire Screw. When we got to Fire Screw we found an alpine bog and saw a Merlin fly over head. On the way down from Fire Screw we stopped at a glacial erratic from Canada which was solid quartz. The way down seemed to take forever and ever. Finally we got back and took a warm shower and had lasagna for dinner. That was my day 2 adventure.
