Into the Wild at Cardigan

The AMC lodge is located at the GPS coordinates 43 degrees 64 minutes and 98 seconds north and 71 degrees 87 minutes and 79 seconds west. Those are in the U.S.A. in the state of New Hampshire. Also it is located at the base of Mt. Cardigan, with an average elevation of 623'. It is in the town of Alexandria, which was founded in November of 1782 by John Moore. The street address is 774 Shem Valley Road. The lodge is up a long dirt driveway and up a path to the main entrance.

Special

Cardigan is special for its beauty.Its a spectacular nature spot and for is history that still sits all around the mountain trails. It has a lot of history and spectacular views from many places. When I was there, I got to see the remains of a ski trail lift system used for pulling skiers up the hill. It was powered by a Volkswagen Beetle and a pulley system. The lodge looks like a modern house from the outside but the inside looks like an old log cabin. Many things about Cardigan are special and it is an amazing place to visit.

Different

Cardigan is different for more than its beauty. Cardigan is one of few places that still has house sites with the stone root cellar in place with junk all around it, from scrap metal to bottles and stove pipes to pots and pans. You can find almost anything at the old house sites. But it still has its beauty in the Fall when all the leaves turn red and when you see huge oak trees that can be three feet in diameter along the path. Cardigan is different and special at the same time.
