Reading Check on 214 - What formed the islands of the West Indies? -The west indies or the caribbean region and its islands were formed in 3 differnet ways. Lesser antilies were formed by volcanos erupting and making island. Cuba and the other larger islands of the caribbean are continental islands they are just part of palte techtonic. The low islands or the Bahamas are coral islands they form from coral growing up and than out.
