1. Write down the main idea of the chapter "Climate" here. "Wind and water carry rainfall and the sun's warmth aroundthe world to create different climates", I think that this means that wind and water ove water and warmth around the world to create different climate.

2. Reading Check Questions on 54- What is the difference between weather and climate? "Weather is the unpredictable changes in the air that take place in short periods of time while climate is the usual, predictable pattern of weather over a long period of time". I think that this means that weather is daily and you cant predict while climate happens over a long time and you can predict.

3. Applying Map skills Question 1. In which general direction does the wind blow over North America?

The wind blows over north america in the towards the dirrection of North east.

4. Applying Map skills Question 2. What winds did European sailers use to get to South America and the islands north of it?

They used the North easterly trade winds to get to south america and the islands north of it.

5. Answer the Reading Check Question on page 55- How does the tilt of the Earth affect climate? (This is a difficult, tricky, complicated question. You can not just copy the answer out of the textbook. Because the answer is not exactly found in the textbook. You will have to figure it out, think about the notes we took and discussed, and ... re-read page 55 to answer this well.

I think that the earth's tilt affects the climate because the climate is ultimately caused by the way that the sun's rays hit the earth's surface and the tilt changes that.

6. How does this relate to the Voyages of Columbus?

This relates to columbuses voyage because the wind is what pushed columbuses boats across the atlantic. He sailed with the winds down on the coasts of south america and then turned west. then he started to take the winds there. So as you can see wind had everything to do with columbuses voyage. See more about his voyages at this website.
