Homework questions and answers

Reading Check on 214 - What formed the islands of the West Indies?

Volcanos made the islands, when you look at the islands from the top, you are looking at the tops of the mountains. The islands, or what is left of the volcanos, are apart of a chain of underwater mountains. Some of the islands are not made out of the underwater volcanos, they are made by the ocean floor's pressure pushing up limestone mountains. Some of the islands are continental. That means that the island is earth crust. The other type of island is a low island. It is an island made of coral, the coral on the bottom will die, and a new layer will form, this happens a lot and eventually, it reaches the top of the ocean. The water will erode the coral making a C, U, O or any variations of those letters.
