On the 3,156 foot summit of Mt. Cardigan located in Alexandria and Orange NH you will see a great view of Newfound Lake which is in the towns of Alexandria, Bridgewater, Bristol and Hebron NH. The coordinates at the summit of cardigan is N 43 degrees 39 minutes 14.8 seconds and W 71 degrees 54 minutes 41.8 seconds and is about a 7 mile hike from the AMC Lodge. The AMC Lodge is 8.9 miles from the center of Bristol NH, 13 miles away from Newfound Lake and approximately 45 miles from our school in Hopkinton NH. On the day that we arrived at cardigan we went to Welton Falls. The exact coordinates at the falls was N 43.6573 degrees and W 71.8644 degrees and the exact coordinates of the place where we saw some bearded tooth was North 43 degrees 39 minutes 22.2 seconds and West 71 degrees 52 minutes 5.9 seconds.
At Cardigan, I saw a ton of cultural geography around me. For instance, when I was on the summit of Cardigan, my group saw a military helicopter that was practicing landing on the rocky Firescrew summit and we saw the tall fire tower that stood behind us. In addition to the cultural geography on Cardigan, I also saw graffiti written on the metal box next to the fire tower as well as one of the other hiking groups wandering around on Mt. Firescrew after they finally reached the summit. When we made it back to the lower elevation, I noticed that there were a bunch of campsites, and an old abandoned cellar hole. Going along with that, on the last day when we were practicing and learning to use the compasses we did a tree walk type of thing and we climbed to the top of a very steep hill and saw an old rusty car that we assumed was used to haul skiers up the hill.
At Cardigan I also saw lot of physical geography. Some examples of physical geography that I saw at Cardigan include Spruce trees, mushrooms, Beech trees, roots, Welton Falls and Hemlock trees. Adding on to that, I saw tons of puddles from the rain, I saw some Bearded Tooth on the way to Welton Falls and I saw the bare granite summit on top of Mt. Cardigan. My last examples are of all of the ski trails that go in with the hiking trails, the Indian Cucumber and the big boulders that I saw on some of the trails. We were there for 3 days, Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday.
