Red group (D2 B4)

Once we got off the bus at the AMC lodge, the instructors had us all go into the field beside the lodge. We all wanted to go right inside and unpack, but they said the rooms were not ready. They told us we were going to play a game called Predator and Prey. Once we were done playing that game, we all sat down in a group and were told who each of our instructors were. When they were anouncing, my name was called in Fern’s group. We talked to Fern for a few minutes and then were given time to unpack and eat lunch.

The hike we were supposed to do that day was a scavenger hunt but we could not find the trail head. We ended up doing the nature hike instead. On it, we learned about how cucumber roots are edible, how you can use a yellow birch tree as a mint flavored tooth brush. Along the trail we stopped and took waypoints and sketched. A way piont is when you mark a certian location on the GPS. Once we stopped at a bridge that stretched over the Bailey Brook. Underneath the bridge we found a black salamander with a yellow underside. At the waypoint where we found the Cucumber roots I also found a charred log that was completely hollowed out. At the end of the log it was spiralled and twisted in a very odd way.

At our last waypoint of the day there were two fallen birch trees over a lower part of the Bailey Brook. At this waypoint we played a game called the The Color Challenge. We were each given a paint sample and we had to find something that was the same color as the paint sample and sketch it.

For dinner that night we had spaghetti and meatballs with delicious breadsticks. After dinner we went on a night hike, with no source of light but the moon. Once we came back inside we showered and got ready for bed. We had about an hour of free time before Mr.Woolner brought us a into the lounge area and told us a story about Blackbeard.

One theme that we experienced that day was Human Environment Interaction. One example was that we ate cucumber roots. We also walked along the MAN-MADE NATURE TRAILS.
