The absolute location of Mount Cardigan is 43.6498 degrees N latitude, 71.9148 degrees W longitude. It is located near Newfound lake, which is visible from the summit of Cardigan. It is East of Orange and West of Alexandria, and North of Grafton, and is part of the appalachian trail. Mount cardigan is a mountain in the Cardigan Mountain State Forest, which is located in Orange New Hampshire. To add to the list of things surrounding Cardigan, Wellington Staete Park is near Mt. Cardigan as well.

There are many physical features that make Cardigan special, for example the vegetation. There are lots of hobble bushes at cardigan, which I hear are good for toilet paper. Mushrooms and other funguses grow on the mountain, there was a bright orange fungus growing on the side of a tree. Who knew nature is so colorful? There are really pretty colored leaves as well. Another example of unique vegetation is all the trees. There are many different types of maples, such as sugar maples, striped maples, and red maples. And, there are no oak trees. I also saw a mapelock/hemple, a maple and hemlock tree all twisted together. Another awesome thing about Cardigan is the alpine bog, which there are only like 2 or 3 of in the US. I did not actually see it, but it is pretty cool that I could have seen one of the only alpine bogs around. Some cool things live there, too, like for example, my hiking group found a red backed salamander. In a stream on the mountain, there was a big blob of egg mass and it was all slimy and icky but also cool. These are just a few of the super amazing physical features you can see at Cardigan.

There are also many cultural features that make cardigan an awesomely unique and different. As an example, there are windmills off in the distance that make a pretty sight from the top of Cardigan, which there is also a firetower. On the trail up the mountain, there is an old rusted car that used to be the energy source of a mechanism that pulled skiers back up the trail. There are many ski trails off of the regular trail. On the side of some the trails, there are stone walls, and on the summit of cardigan, there are little stone towers built everywhere. Where there are streams or just anywhere in the woods on the mountain there are wood bridges that do not look especially sturdy but we crossed them anyway. Rebels. Also on the trails was a toboggan. I am not sure why that was there. Speaking of the trails so much, on the trees were painted on trail markers. A not so awesome thing is that there is some trash left behind by us naughty humans, but I picked up what I found. There is a nice campfire with benches and logs for sittin and the AMC people have a banjo for singin. Cardigan is such a spectacular place and so much fun!

We were there on Wednesday , Thursday and Friday
