1. Write down the main idea of the chapter "Climate" here.

The main idea is "wind and water carry rainfall and the sun's warmth around the world to create different climates." Which means that the wind and sun creates different climates around the world.

2. Reading Check Questions on 54- What is the difference between weather and climate?

The difference between weather and climate are weather is unpredictable and climate is predictable.

3. Applying Map Skills Question 1. In which general direction does the wind blow over North America?

The general winds that blow over North America are the westerlies wind.

The winds that the Europeans sailors used to get to South America were the northeasterly winds.

5. Answer the Reading Check Question on page 55- How does the tilt of the Earth affect climate? (This is a difficult, tricky, complicated question. You can NOT just copy the answer out of the textbook. Because the answer is NOT EXACTLY found in the textbook. You will have to figure it out, think about the notes we took and discussed, and ... re-read page 55 to answer this well.

The Earth's tilt affects the climate by where the sun hits the Earth and where the sun is directly overhead is where it is the hottest. Where the sun doesn't hit it's colder.

6. How does this relate to the Voyages of Columbus? Answer, and put in a link to YOUR Columbus Wind Project.

It relates to the Voyages of Columbus becuase he had to use winds currents of Hadley cells to reach the islands of the Greater Antilles, Lesser Antilles, and the Bahamas. On the way back for nine days they had NO wind! They were at 30 degrees. Once they left 30 degrees they sailed smoothly again.
