Location Paragraph

There is a bridge made out of stones, to cross the Bailey Brook. This bridge is part of the main trail going off of the AMC Mt Cardigan lodge. The absolute location of this bridge is Latitude 43 degrees north 39 minutes 22.0 seconds and Longitude 71 degrees west 52 minutes 02.7 seconds and the Elevation is 1,187 feet. The relative location of the bridge is off the main trail past the tent sites and the picnic area. If you follow this trail you will come across the bridge which is located along the Bailey brook. This bridge is before you get to the waterfall and is after the trail has been going along the edge of the river for a while. When looking at a map it is at the point where the trail and the river actually intersect. Welton Falls(which is further along this trail) is north-east of the bridge crossing. The cliff edge overlooking the part of the river where all the trees fell is south-west of the bridge and the bridge is west of Mt Cardigan.

Physical Characteristics

Cardigan had a lot of special physical features. One of the interesting things about Mount Cardigan was the many different types of plants all over the mountain. The plant I found most interesting was the hobble bush. I found this plant interesting because of its unique cinnamon bud that helped the plant to grow and get sunlight before the other plants did. Some of the other plants that you can find at Cardigan include the Yellow Birch tree, Sphagnum moss, and Golden thread. Some of the other physical characteristics were Welton falls, Bear Rock summit, and Bailey Brook. All of these things make Mt. Cardigan special because the plants that grew on the mountain helped to form the unique ecosystem that we see today. The other physical characteristics make it special because you cannot find them in many other places, for instance today it is becoming harder to find such a well preserved area.

Cultural Characteristics

Not only are there many special physical characteristics, but there are also many special cultural characteristics that helped make Cardigan a very memorable place. I found many of these things to be interesting because they help me to understand some of our history and will one day be part of many others history. I thought that the birch circle and it's ritual was really cool. This is because it made me wonder who and why did they create this special area and ceremonial song. The warden's cabin was also a very interesting thing. It was interesting because it made me wonder why someone would want to live on their own on the top of a mountain, how many times they actually spotted a fire, and how he/she felt and acted when they saw it. Some other interesting cultural characteristics were the fire tower, the windmills, and the AMC lodge. These cultural things were beautiful because even though they were made by people it seemed like they had belonged there and had been there forever.

We were at the Cardigan AMC Lodge for 3 days, Wednesday September 28th, Thursday September 29th and Friday September 30th
