My final day at Cardigan started off early. Very early. After our socks were on, my bunk mates and I headed downstairs for an early breakfast. We ate french toast, sausage patties, and fruit. We then did our final ort report, in which we had no ort! We went back upstairs to pack up all of our things, and get ready for small hikes we were doing throughout the day. Then, we went back downstairs and packed our lunches and sandwiches. We started off with a compass activity. Mrs. Brehio would stand at a random direction in front of us, we would turn around so we couldn't see her, then turn back around and quickly find out roughly what degree she was standing at. Once everyone got used to the game, we played as teams, and whichever team won got swedish fish. The opposing team won, but she ended up giving everyone some. After this, we decided to walk up to lots of different points on a field. We would count how many steps to walk, and which direction to go, and try to find the destination. After a while, we ate our lunches and snacks. We hiked back down and went to the pond right in front of the lodge. Gretchen explained that we were going to be looking for water animals in the pond. We grabbed small fishing nets and went out to search. Once we were all done, we had gathered about 6 different kinds of animals. We looked closely at each animal, and identified them with a guide Gretchen had. Then, we each sketched one of the creatures we found. I decided to sketch the water snail. Then we cleaned up all our things and put them away. We headed to the start of the Nature Trail. We began hiking the very short trail until we came to an intersection. Gretchen then explained to us that we were going on solo walks about 2 minutes apart, with little cards to read along the way. She said she thought this would be a good, relaxing activity to end the day and session with. In all, it was a lot of fun. Once everyone had finished the walk, we packed up everything left, and got on the bus. As the bus drove away, we waved goodbye to the AMC Crew. Driving from the AMC Lodge in Alexandria, to Hopkinton High School back in Hopkinton, is an example of movement. Another example of movement is when our parents drove us from the high school, back to our homes somewhere in Hopkinton or Contoocook. We were at Cardigan for 3 days: Wednesday, September 28, Thursday, September 29, and Friday, September 30.
