After we had gotten off of the loud and noisy bus, we were introduced to the members of the AMC Crew: Gretchen, Toby, Andy, and Kristen (Fern). We then played a remake version of sharks and minos. Then, all of the starving 7th graders got to finally eat our packed lunch. Soon after that, we went outside with our group leaders, and discussed things about maps, the hike we were doing, and then drawing our first sketch, the AMC Lodge. Then, we began our small hike on the Welton Falls trail. Welton Falls is a region because it is a separate state forest from the AMC Cardigan Reservation. It is also a region because it is seperate from the other hiking trails at the reservation. We stopped at multiple points to sketch and mark waypoints. We also did this for water. While hiking, Gretchen and Mr. Woolner pointed out things like blazes, interesting trees, and particular things. After a ways, we came to a beautiful waterfall just beyond a green, metal railing. We got to go partially under a very large boulder and look straight down at the waterfall. We sketched this and eventually continued walking on the shallow river. Finally, we came to the dirt road we had rode on the bus hours before. We then realized we had come to the end of the trail and started our hike back. Once back at the lodge, we finally got to set up and unpack in our separate rooms. After we had finished, we had free time in the living area downstairs to chat with friends and play games. After a bit, we got to eat dinner. We had tacos. They were so good I decided to have 3. I chose a soft tortilla instead of a hard shelled one, and I added hamburger, lettuce, cheese, and some salsa. Once everyone was finished with their meal, we were pleasantly surprised to hear there we homemade chocolate brownies for everyone. After we were completely finished with dinner and eating in general, we were introduced to the ort report and how to properly do the coinciding song. We were then told to get on warm clothes, a hat, and if wanted, gloves. We went back outside with our group leaders and played games for quite awhile. We played bat and mouse, which is a recreation of Marco Polo, and also walked into the darkness to prepare us for blindfolded night hiking. What I mean by this is, each one of us was blindfolded except for Gretchen, the leader. We all held onto each other's shoulders in a conga line, and slowly and steadily walked to somewhere in the woods we did not know of yet. Finally, after a long trek in the dark, we got to take off our blindfolds and look at our surroundings. Even with the blindfold off, almost everybody still didn't know exactly where we were, whereas none of us had been on the trail there before. Thankfully, we got to carefully walk back to the lodge without our blindfolds on. Everyone got into their comfy pjs, and headed down to the living area. Mr. Woolner read us a few stories about Captain Blackbeard, which winded us down for bed. We rushed upstairs to brush our teeth and hair, and headed into our already set up rooms. After being cued to settle down and be quiet, everyone was fast asleep, dreaming about the long, upcoming hikes the following day.
