Location

Mt. Cardigan is located in the town Alexandria, New Hampshire. When we first arrived, it was misty, wet, and fairly cold. I enjoy hiking in this type of weather, although others might not. I could already see the hiking trails headed up Mt. Cardigan. Just outside the lodge, on the wooden deck, I couldn't exactly see the peak of Cardigan, but I knew it was there. The AMC Cardigan Lodge coordinates are N 43 degrees 38' 58.3" latitude and W 071 degrees 52' 40.2" longitude. This was the perfect place for our grade to go hiking for Geography class.

Place

While I was hiking Mt. Cardigan on its bare rock cliffs , it was very sunny and hot. We were in plain view of the sun and its rays. Everyone was sweating heavily, and had to stop for water frequently. Standing on the very top of the mountain near the tower, it was brutally windy. At first, this felt relaxing and cooling, but soon after that, it turned into chill and cold. While hiking in the woods with tall trees above us, it was cooler and less humid. This was mostly on the way down. Also while hiking Mt. Cardigan, our hiking group saw many trail markers on the trees. We also read many trail signs telling us the mileage and name of each trail we encountered. On almost all of the trails, we saw cairns atop large open areas of rock. On the first day, when we hiked Welton Falls, we saw a railing along the waterfall. We hiked down wooden steps on the Orange Mountain trail on the second day. On the very top of Cardigan, we saw a very tall tower centered on all of the bare rock.

We were at Cardigan for 3 days, Wednesday, September 28, Thursday, September 29, and Friday, September 30.
