Day 2 Human-Environment Interactions:

We woke up to a beautiful fall day in the mountains. After getting up, changing and doing whatever else we needed to do, we went down to a delicious breakfast. Again we had no ORT which was good for the environment. After breakfast, we packed our bag lunches and everyone gathered in their groups and headed out for the big hike up Mt.Cardigan and Firescrew. The weather was a little chilly so we all put on an extra layer. When we were all ready we headed out. We would hike, then stop to do a transect, then hike, then transect. Throughout the hike the temperature progressed until we were stripped down to just a t-shirt and shorts or sweatpants. This is Human-Environment Interaction because the weather made up shed layers. By the time we reached the top of firescrew, we had done three transects and we had three more planned. At the top of both Firescrew and Mt. Cardigan there were many man made keirns that were both for beauty and to show the way of the trail. After crossing over the ridge line from Firescrew over to Mt. Cardigan where we had done another transect and also taken a picture with another group, we reached the top of Mt. Cardigan. At the top there was a firetower the was drilled into the rock surface. There were also thick cables the attached the firetower to the ground against the power of the wind. There were also a lot of inscribings in the rock including one metal stamp that many students traced. On the way down we also saw an old warden's cabin that had been boarded up. Also on our way down we did two more transects. When we got to the bottom it was free time and I played soccer along with a bunch of others. Next was a scrumptious dinner of mustard and bacon chicken. Even though I don't like mustard that much, it was still yummy. When dinner was over, we bundled up for the bonfire! Everyone gathered around the burning logs that the staff had gathered from dead trees in the woods. We all dressed warmly due to the weather. As it got darker, we started to sing songs and do little skits. The last one was about some people camping and then getting attacked by the Noodle People! After the fire we all fell fast asleep excited for our final day at cardigan.
