The First Day!

Day 1 Movement:
On the first day at Cardigan, we arrived from home at school with our bags packed and excited for what was to come. We were the first group so we didn't know what to expect though we had heard some stories of great fun from the 8th graders! After a long bus ride of getting lost we finally found Cardigan AMC lodge. We streamed out of the bus and into the fresh air. When we had sorted ourselves out, everyone gathered in a circle and we were introduced to the guides and staff in the great field next to the lodge. After that, we played a game called predators and prey where the predators would try to hit the prey with a ball and make them into predators. It was so fun! Then we met our guides. Mine was Kristen and/or Fern, she was from New York and she was awesome. Right after that, we were notified that our rooms were ready and we rushed up the stairs and poured into our rooms claiming beds, trading pillows and what not. After unpacking, we collected it groups and set off on small hikes, my group went on the manning trail and we did the nature loop too. We had Moved from the lodge, around the nature loop, and ended up back at the lodge. Every once in awhile we would stop to sketch a tree or look at something cool. We even got to eat cucumber root! After hiking for a while we did something called, "Meet a tree". In this activity, we got into partners and then one of us was blindfolded. The unblinded person would lead the blinded through the woods to a tree which they would then feel, smell, and even taste. Then after getting spun around, we would try to guess which tree we had been taken to. We had so much fun! We also sketched a cool creek. After the hike we went back to the AMC lodge for free time. A Lot of people including me, went out and played soccer. Next there was dinner. It was so good and my table had no ORT! When dinner was over, we bundled up and my group did a blind walk around a pond to a place where we did owl calls and looked at the stars. Just before bed, we all gathered to hear a cool story about the legend Blackbeard. We were all so excited for the next big day, that it was hard to fall asleep, but we eventually did and the next thing we knew, it was the morning of day 2.
