The First Day of My Trek to Mt. Cardigan

The bus screeched to a halt. Kids started to stand up. Then an AMC leader boarded the bus. She told us to set our bags on the ground and walk up to the open area near the lodge. So we did what we were told and we all walked up to the field. When we got there there was a leader named Andy. We played a game called predator and prey. Then we got assigned our leaders. My leader told us her nickname was Fern. I forgot her real name so I just called her by her nickname. After that we had lunch and got our hiking gear on. When we met with our groups we went on the nature trail. We played a game called Meet a Tree and we learned that you can brush your teeth with a yellow birch. We also found salamanders in the creek and and sketched them. While we were at the creek we had trail mix. After we went exploring for a bit Fern told us we had to get going. So we went further on the nature trail. The trail was longer than I expected. It looked short on the map but it was really long in reality. We stopped at another cool place by the creek. We stayed there for a bit and then left. We started to walk back. During the hike, my leader had introduced us to cucumber root. So all of the girls in my group started to eat them. This is an example of Human Environment Interaction.
