Day 1 Mt. Cardigan Trip

Cardigan Day 1

The first day of the Cardigan trip, I woke up and did all the things that I normally do. My mom and I then drove to school. My mom was chaperoning the trip so I did not need to unload my bags. All the session 2 kids loaded onto the bus shortly after I got to the school. The bus left the region of the High School parking lot. Then we would be heading to the Region of Cardigan Mountain parking lot. Mount Cardigan parking lot is by Orange NH.Region is one of the 5 Themes of Geography. After we got on the bus and left the parking lot, we took a lot of back roads to get to Cardigan. When we finally got there,we unloaded the bus and got all of our stuff moved into our rooms, picked out our beds and then got ready to go hiking. Once everybody was ready we all met outside to meet the people that would be our hiking guides. They introduced themselves to us and then split apart. Once we knew who was in our group, we got in our groups, talked and made a group name, my group was the Crispy Turtles. After we were done with that each group headed off and did their own hike. The hike that I went on was the one going to Welton Falls. We hiked for a bit and took a lot of sketches then came to a river. We stopped at the river for a while and caught bugs and then sketchedsome of them. Once we were done with that, we crossed the river and continued our way to Welton Falls. After lots of hiking and water breaks, we finally got to the falls. We stopped and took one more water break. We walked a little further and then took a sketch of the waterfall from our point of veiw right there. While we were doing that, one of Lucy's paper fell out of her book and Toby (our trail guide) had to go down and get it for her. After that was over we spent a little bit of time talking and wandering around until Toby said it was time to go. Once we left, we hiked up a small hill took and water break, dug up some Indian Cucumbers. Once we were all done with that, we moved on back to the lodge. We crossed the river and passed another group. We got to some picnic tables and sat down and discussed how we thought the day went. After we were done talking, we all ran back to the lodge, took our boots off, then went up to get showers and then just sat in our rooms and talked for a bit until it was time for dinner or went outside to play 500. Kally and I played pass with a football that belonged to Lance. Andy started playing pass with us and he was really good. They had us ask questions to see who would get to eat first. After everybody was done eating, they had us sing an ort- report song. Ort was how much leftover food (on your plate) that the whole group had combined. When that was done, it was time for stories. Everybody got comfortable and Mr. Woolner started reading to us about Blackbeard and the pirates. When he was done reading, we all went up stairs for a bit, did our final things that needed to be done then went to bed. That was Day 1 atMt. Cardigan
