Day 1 at Cardigan was a very interesting one, for sure. (I was on session 2, in case anyone is wondering.) When we got to the lodge, in the NH lakes region, it was still raining quite a bit, so we had to rush our stuff in as fast as possible. When we all got inside, we met in the dining room met 2 of the instructors, and played a few games. After that, we got our bunk room assignments, ate our lunches, and learned our hiking groups. (Again, in case anyone was wondering, I was in Hopes group.) We met within our groups, and then embarked on an adventure into the NH lakes region wilderness! Well, actually, we just did a stream study. Close enough. We took water samples, looked for wildlife, and tested the speed, width, and depth of the water. After this, it had pretty much stopped raining, and we went on a small nature loop, during which we played some games and looked at some leaves. After this, we met back at the lodge and had free time, before a lasagna dinner. Possibly one of the most interesting parts of the day was the night walk we did afterwards- we walked into the woods a ways, talked about night animals, and played a few more fun, short games. Once we finished, we went back inside and got ready for bed. Despite being one of the shortest days, day 1 was an exciting one!
