Arriving at Cardigan by bus, we ended up in front of the lodge, in the middle of a rainstorm. Because of this, everyone had to take pieces of gear from the back of the bus, instead of the trailer, into the lodge. Once in, we all sat in the dining hall, and were taught, and described the rules of the lodge by the group leaders. After this, everyone found out the group they were in, and then went to their assigned room to unload all of their stuff. After getting settled in, everyone put on rainproof hiking gear, and did a smaller hike with their assigned group than was first planned. On the hike, I noticed markings on the trees, along with signs, water fountains etc. This was a demonstration of human environment interaction, because it was humans who put all of these signs, marks, and fountains there.Other human environment interaction would be the lodge itself, because humans had to use materials to build the lodge, along with plan, and almost make the trails. Anyways, after the hike, there was an hour of free time, involving twister, board games, and other activities that kept students busy until dinner. Before dinner, each group had a small talk about ort. Ort stands for Our Remaining Tidbits, which basically means uneaten leftovers. After the talk of how to reduce any amount of ort, everyone sat down for a lasagna dinner. After everyone had eaten, the group leaders did an ort report to show how much ort remained; and on the first meal at cardigan, we had a total of 1.7 lbs of ort. After this, everyone got their gear back off, and went back outside for a night activity. After the night activities, which included a very small hike, stories, and a game of tag, everyone went back inside to prepare for bed. After this happened, everyone went back downstairs to listen to a story before bed. It was at this time that Mr.Woolner stood on, and broke a table. After the story, everyone went to bed; which was the end of day 1.
