This is a quiz that was found in the Sunday January 3 2010 Concord Monitor newspaper…. Answers are there, too.  You need to read the question, and… if you KNOW the correct answer, that’s good… but you must still VERIFY that correct answer.  And write out your source for that correct answer.  And, MOST importantly, I want to you also write out your thinking process- especially for the questions you do NOT know the answer to.  Can you eliminate any of the answers?  How?   And how did you search for the correct answer?  Did you search the QUESTION, or did you search the possible answers?

I am going to use the search engine Google. I am going to use Google because it is the search engine that I am most familiar with. I am going to use the key words Bermuda Tringle, three points, and location. I found 215, 000 results and then I scrolled through the first few snippets until I found a website that I wanted to read. This is the link for the website I used. http://www.worldatlas.com/aatlas/infopage/bermudat.htm . This website is a .com domain. I found a map with the correct answer. For this question I used the search engine Duck Duck Go. I am using Duck Duck Go because I have never used it before and I wanted to try it out. I am going to us the key words Recife, Pernambuco, country. On this search engine it does not tell you how many results have been found. I looked through some snippets and found a website that I liked. This is the website that I found http://www.brazil.org.za/recife.html . This domain is .org. I found the correct answer. On the question I used the website Dogpile. I used Dogpile because I haven’t used it before. I don’t know what the correct answer but I think it isn’t a. because that seems too young. The keywords I used are Nara, Japan, anniversary, and first capital. When I looked up these keywords there were a few pop-ups to guide me a different answers. I scrolled thorough looking at the snippets and I found one that I thought would work. The website I used is http://www.nytimes.com/2010/01/03/travel/03headsup.html?_r=0 . This has a domain of .com.  I noticed on this website I noticed that there were lots of ads and ads for other articles. I found the correct answer. The correct answer is 1,300 years.

The website that I used for this question is IxQuick. I have never used this website before so that is why I am using it. I have no idea what the answer is and I don’t know how I could find the right answer by process of elimination. The keywords I used are Northern Pacific Gyre, Japan, and United States. This website is a domain of .com. I found the correct answer. The correct answer is a giant debris field of garbage trapped in a spinning circle.

For number 5 I am going to do this one very differently. We are going to use 4 different search engines. The search engines I am using are Dogpile, Google, Bing, and WebCrawler. I have never used any of these search engines except for Bing.  I don’t know the answer but I think it is a. The keywords I am using are Hagia Sofia, mosaic angel, and 2010. I looked through the snippets and chose a one I wanted. All 4 different search engines had Wikipedia in the first few websites. Here is the website that I found on Dogpile http://www.keptlight.com/hagia-sophia-a-new-mosaic-unveiled/ . This website had lots of ads on it. It did not give me an answer. For the search engine Google I used this website http://www.telegraph.co.uk/comment/columnists/christopherhowse/8026330/Sacred-Mysteries-An-appointment-with-an-angel-at-Hagia-Sophia.html . This website did give me an answer and it was in the subtitle so I didn’t need to visit any more sites. The domain for this site is .co. The correct answer is Istanbul, Turkey.

I am going to use Google as a search engine for this question but I am going to do an advanced search. I am going to limit the domain results. The keywords that I am going to use is Kampar River and location. Google found 1,410 results that contained information for Kampar River. To find an advanced domain I typed in site:*.edu to get only sites with the domain .edu. I scrolled through the snippets to find a site I liked. I found a site I liked. This website has the domain of .com.This website said where the Adirondacks were located in the subheading. The correct answer was they are located in New York and they are a mountain range.

For this question I used IxQuick. The keywords I am going to use Caribbean and formal name. This took me quite a while because I could not find an answer until I changed my keywords to Caribbean map.  I scrolled through some snippets and found this website. http://www.worldatlas.com/webimage/countrys/carib.htm.
