This is a drawing of some deciduous trees we saw.

This is a sketch of a Striped Maple tree.

Once the bus had gotten to the AMC Lodge we found out who our instructor wa. I got Robin. Next we played games with the whole session 1 group. After we played the group games my group did a questionnaire about what kind of trees/shrubs we were seeing. In the questionnaire we used directions with a compass to figure out what tree/shrub we were looking at. After we finished doing the questionnaire my group found a route that we wanted to travel and started on the trail. The trail was about 2.5 miles. While we walked on the tail we did many games. Two of the games were having a partner bring you to a tree and then walking you back to “home”and you had to guess what tree you touched. The other game was we had cards with animals on them and we had to guess what animal we had. I had a Short-Tailed Weasel. We did many of the games in the beginning of the trail. At 4:00 pm we started to head back to the lodge. We had gotten halfway through the trail. Our group was trying to get to a river. We had gotten to the beginning of the river before we had to head back. Once we got back to the lodge we had our free time and dinner. Before dinner we got our stuff and went to our bunk rooms. At dinner we learned about ORT (Our Remaining Tidbits). ORT was used to help us eat everything we had gotten on our plate. After dinner we met back with Robin and started to do some nighttime games. The first game we did was with rope and we walked through woods holding onto it while being blindfolded and Robin was leading us. Once we got to a path that tomorrow we would be taking to get to Firescrew. On that trail we played to more games. One of the games was about our eyes. Robin told us that it takes about 45 minutes for our eyes to adjust to darkness. After she told us about our eyes we got into partner and walked back 8 ft. Once we were 8 ft away from each other she told us to look at each others head. My partner's head seemed to be disappearing. Robin told us it was because our eyes hadn't fully adjusted to the dark. She called this game “Disappearing Heads”. We played another game that was called “Moth and Bat”. She told use that bats were almost fully blind and that they used their hearing to catch prey at night. In this game the bat had a blindfold on and the moth had shaker in their hand. The object of the game was for the bat to try and catch the prey and for the moth to confuse the bat and try and not get caught. After we played the games we headed back for the lodge. The moon was starting to turn into a “Blood Moon” but had not yet fully turned. We went into the lodge and got on our pajamas. While we waiting for the moon to turn Mr. Woolner read some stories. After we finished the stories we went outside to look at the moon. The moon was ¾ of the way finished but not fully. After we took a glance at the moon we went back inside to our bunks. Every few minutes in my bunk room we looked at the moon. After it had finally turned all the way we went to bed. We knew we were going to have a long day tomorrow. A theme that I saw on “Day 1” was Human and Environment Interaction because at the base of the mountain where our trail started there was a base of a house that was probably made way before I was born. This is an example because the people who made the house modified the area around it.
