Main Idea: The islands of the west indies rely on tourism to support their economies

1.What formed the islands of the West Indies?

-Underwater volcanoes erupted and cooled, forming an underwater mountain chain, the tops of which break the water level, creating the West Indies

2.What is the major industry of the West Indies?

-The main Industry of the West Indies is tourism, along with commercial growing of sugarcane, coffee beans, tobacco, and bananas. Most people also own small plots of land where they grow rice, beans, veggies, and fruits for themselves.

3.Region- What three archipelagos make up the West Indies?

-The Greater Antilles, The Lesser Antilles, and the Bahamas

4.History- Name four groups who have influenced the culture of the Caribbean region.

-The Spaniards, the French, the Dutch, and the English mainly influenced The West Indies

5.How is Cuba different from every other country in the Western Hemisphere?

-Cuba is a special little turnip into itself because it is the only country in the western hemisphere that is communist. Right now, it is led by the brother of Fidel Castro, Raul Castro.
