This is a quiz that was found in the Sunday January 3 2010 Concord Monitor newspaper…. Answers are there, too. You need to read the question, and… if you KNOW the correct answer, that’s good… but you must still VERIFY that correct answer. And write out your source for that correct answer. And, MOST importantly, I want to you also write out your thinking process- especially for the questions you do NOT know the answer to. Can you eliminate any of the answers? How? And how did you search for the correct answer? Did you search the QUESTION, or did you search the possible answers?

I am going to use WWW Journey. I am using this search engine because I made it. I think the answer is B. I am going to use the key words Bermuda, Triangle and location. I typed the key words into the search boxed and searched. I found many snippets. On world atlas site I found the answer. http://www.worldatlas.com/aatlas/infopage/bermudat.htm The correct answer is C.
2. Recife is the popular, pretty capital of Pernambuco state in what country?

I think the answer is Brazil. I am using Google because I haven’t used it yet. I used the search terms, Recife capital. I used Google and found a snippet of Wikipedia so I clicked on it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Recife The correct answer is F. Wikipedia suggested that Recife was the capital of Pernambuco in Brazil. Wikipedia also showed me a few pictures of the city.
3. Historic Nara, Japan, celebrates a huge anniversary in 2010. How old is the country’s first capital city?

I will use the search engine ixquick.com because it does not track you. I think the answer is B. I am going to use the search engine Nara Japan. I think that the correct answer is B because it is old but not too old. When I searched nothing popped up on the screen. 4. The Northern Pacific Gyre lies in the Pacific Ocean between Japan and the west coast of the United States. What does it contain?

I am going to use the ancient search engine lost in history… Web crawler… I am using the key words What does the Norther Pacific Gyre contain? I found a snippet called scribal.com the link is http://scribol.com/environment/waste-and-recycling/the-north-pacific-gyre-100-million-tons-of-garbage-and-growing It turns out that 100 million tons of garbage are there. The correct answer is B.
5. This year (in 2010) a mosaic of an angel was discovered under the floor of the Hagia Sophia. Where and what is the Hagia Sophia?
a. Istanbul, Turkey. It’s a museum that previously was a Byzantine Christian Church and a mosque.
b. Luxembourg. It’s a cathedral built to honor St. Sophia, the country’s patron saint.
c. Mexico City. It’s a traditional market where the image of the angel is said to have healing powers.
We are going to do this question in a very very very different way. I am going to use 4 different search engines: Google, Bing, Seach.com and WWW Journey. Search terms I am using are: Hagia Sophia. I think the answer is A because It sounds Turkish. Bing brought up Wikipedia which is a open source organization. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hagia_Sophia Google brought up http://www.hagiasophia.com/ which is the official website. Search.com brought up a snippet with no actual data on the subject. It seemed that there were just music sites. Here is the music site: http://www.last.fm/music/Irfan/_/Hagia+Sophia .
6. If you want to go whitewater rafting on the Kampar River, where do you have to go?

We are going to limit the search using site colon tricks… I think the answer is B. I used google.com. I used the search terms: Kampar River site:*.ly That brought up a bit.ly link so I clicked it. It went straight to Wikipedia. The link for Wikipedia is: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kampar_River The answer to the question is B.

7. Most tourists love Devonshire cream tea – scones, clotted cream and raspberry jam with tea. But where in England is Devonshire?

I personally think the answer is A because It’s dairy country. I am using bing.com to search for the answer… My search terms will be Devonshire. Turns out the correct answer is B. I used Bing Maps to find the answer. I am going to use DuckDuckGo to find the answer. My key words are: Adirondacks USA. I think the answer is B because I have heard of it being there. I searched it up on DuckDuckGo and the first link that came up was http://www.adirondacksusa.com/ In the title it said The Adirondack Park of Upstate New York. The correct answer is B.
9. Most people just call the region the Caribbean, but what is its formal name?

I have no idea for this one. I am going to use Ix Quick to find an answer. My search Terms will be Caribbean Formal name. IxQuick gave me no help and no answers. So I will use Google. I used Wikipedia. Wikipedia told me the answer is A, The west indies.
