The main idea for this set of notes is the West Indies, also called the Caribbean

  1. What formed the islands of the West Indies? The Islands of the West Indies were formed by volcanic eruptions, such as MountSerrat, a mountain in the West Indies that is currently errupting.

  2. What is the major industry in the West Indies? The most major industry in the West Indies is the tourism that their islands attracts.The island of Jamacia attracts thousands of tourists every year, and has been a hotspot for vacations and luxury hotels for the past several years.

  4. History- Name four groups who have influenced the culture of the Caribbean region. The British, The United States, The Dutch, and The Spanish all had a heavy impact over the culture in the European Region during the exploits of colonization.

  5. How is Cuba different from every other country in the Western Hemisphere? Cuba is the only country in the Caribbean Region that does not have a western style government, instead relying on communisim. Currently, president Obama is visiting Cuba and advocating better rights for its citizens to its communist leaders.
