This is a quiz that was found in the Sunday January 3 2010 Concord Monitor newspaper…. Answers are there, too.  You need to read the question, and… if you KNOW the correct answer, that’s good… but you must still VERIFY that correct answer.  And write out your source for that correct answer.  And, MOST importantly, I want to you also write out your thinking process- especially for the questions you do NOT know the answer to.  Can you eliminate any of the answers?  How?   And how did you search for the correct answer?  Did you search the QUESTION, or did you search the possible answers?

I am going to use the search engine Duck Duck Go. I am going to use this search engine because I like the duck and the name of the search engine. I think the correct answer is C because it is about the sea. I am going to use the key words Bermuda, Triangle and locations. I typed the key words. I scrolled through the snippets and found the .gov page and read the page and I found out the answer http://oceanservice.noaa.gov/facts/bermudatri.html

I am going to use Bing as a search engine. I am going to try to use this search engine  because I like the letter B. I think that the answer is the letter C Brazil. I am using the key word Capital and Pernambuco because that will give the capital of the country  . I typed Pernmnuco and other answers appeared on the screen. I guess that people searched the same question that I searched. I am going to use another search engine  www.google.com. I am going to try this one because I have heard that it is a good and reliable search engine and I use it the most. I think the correct answer is B 1,300 because it is the most reasonable number  . The search terms I am going to use is Nara, Japan and capital city. As I typed my terms some things popped up of what they thought I was going to type. I am going to use another search engine ixquick.com.  I am going to use this because I think the name is cool and it doesn’t track your searches. I think the answer is  the the second  one. I am going to use the key word North Pacific Gyre Contains. We are going to use this question in a very different way. We are going to compare some search engines. I am going to use Duck Duck Go, Google , Bing and Ixquick. I think that it is number A because of the museum of turkey. I am going to use Hagia and Sophia. All of the the search engines popped up of what I was going to say But the only on that didn’t predict what I was going to say was ixquick. Google popped out with some information about it with out opening a link and Ixquick had links about were to stay. Duck Duck Go pops up with a picture of the museum and a little about it. I limited the results by putting site:*. and that will give you the .edu or .gov or.com sites only.
