1. What formed the islands of the West Indies?
The upbringing of volcanoes formed the islands of the West Indies. Also the Uplifted of the ocean floor. The North American Plate is sliding underneath the Caribbean Plate to create volcanic islands. This is called a subduction zone. Each of the volcanoes lie on a plate boundry which make it easyier for the plates to subduct underneath one another.
2. What is the major industry of the West Indies?
Tourism and farming are the most important economic activities in the west indies. Wealthy landowners grow crops such as sugarcane, bananas, coffee, and tobacco. Another big industry of the West Indies is the Mining, manufacturing and trade. Manufcturing and trade are very important because most of the money that the Caribbean makes comes from making Oil and Natural Gas. In 2001 the Natural Gas in Cuba rose along with the Oil Production in 2002 in the Caribbean.

3.Region- What three archipelagos make up the West Indies~
The three archipelagos that make up the West Indies are called the Greater Antillies, the Lesser Antillies and the Bahamas. In this website it talks alot about the Greater Antillies. It talks more about how the region is mostly composed of islands and that it is located on the south east of north america.
4. History-Name four groups who have influenced the culture of the Caribbean region~
English, French, Dutch, Spaniards are the four groups who have influenced the culture of the Caribbean Regions. This site talks about how the Caribbean region is still being affected by the four groups. It also talks about ansestery and how most people end up tracing their family back to the Caribbean region.
5. Government- How is cuba different from every other country in the western Hemisphere~
Cuba has survived the breakup of the Soviet Communism. And is the only Full Blown communist country left in the Western Hemisphere. And...It is now open for tourism!!!! Barack Obama has just recently gone there! This website talks about how Obama is the first presedent to go to Cuba in 88 years becasue Cuba has been closed off to people until now.
