This is a quiz that was found in the Sunday January 3 2010 Concord Monitor newspaper…. Answers are there, too. You need to read the question, and… if you KNOW the correct answer, that’s good… but you must still VERIFY that correct answer. And write out your source for that correct answer. And, MOST importantly, I want to you also write out your thinking process- especially for the questions you do NOT know the answer to. Can you eliminate any of the answers? How? And how did you search for the correct answer? Did you search the QUESTION, or did you search the possible answers?
Write it out! Be complete. A good paragraph per answer is what we are after here…

1 What are the three places that make up the points of the Bermuda Triangle?
I am going to use the search engine, google, because I like the layout and the colors. I think the answer is A, I think that because they are all islands. I typed in points Bermuda triangle and I was wrong the answer is C, Miami, Bermuda and Puerto Ricco, I looked at the snippets and used http://www.unmuseum.org/triangle.htm as my source.
I am going to use Bing as my search engine, I am going to use Bing because, I like its name because It’s Not Google. My guess is Italy because it sounds Italian. My key words are Recife Pernambuco and state, I Started to type the word Recife and it said it’s a city in Brazil. I used https://www.lonelyplanet.com/brazil/the-northeast/recife as my source for info because it seemed legit. The answer is C, Brazil.
I am going to use a different search engine, it does track anything, ixquick. I Am using this cause mister woolner said so, and cause its going away. I have no idea what the answer is but I am going to guess 1,300 cause I know its not C cause that would make it the oldest country, I noticed when I was typing it in nothing came up unit I hit enter. My search terms are Nara Japan capital. I scrolled through snippets and used http://soulofthegarden.com/Japan.html as my resource this one had the answer. It said it was the capital 710, so with a little math I was right the answer was B.
4 The Northern Pacific Gyre lies in the Pacific Ocean between Japan and the west coast of the United States. What does it contain?
For the 4th one I will be using another search engine, I will be using web crawler cause I like to think of a tiny bug running through the internet. My guess is an underground sea mountain 7 mile tall. My key words are Northern pacific gyre. When I typed it in a bunch of ads came up I didn’t really like this search engine, I used http://education.nationalgeographic.org/encyclopedia/ocean-gyre/ as my source because I know national geographic is a trusted site. It was on the second page. This page said that the answer is D. I was wrong.
5 This year (in 2010) a mosaic of an angel was discovered under the floor of the Hagia Sophia. Where and what is the Hagia Sophia?
We are going to do this one very differently, we are going to try to use 4 search engines and see the difference, and for this one I will be using duckduck go, google, Bing, and dogpile. I am guessing Mexico City. For my search terms I am using Hagia Sophia. Bing and google duckduck go came up with a wikipage and said the answer right on it. Only dogpile didn’t have the answer right on it. I liked Duck Duck go the best because It had the info right in front, I will be using duck duck go for the search engine because I like that the best. I looked through the snippets and found agia-sophia.net. I was wrong the answer was G Turkey. I think I will use duckduck go more.
