This is a quiz that was found in the Sunday January 3 2010 Concord Monitor newspaper…. Answers are there, too. You need to read the question, and… if you KNOW the correct answer, that’s good… but you must still VERIFY that correct answer. And write out your source for that correct answer. And, MOST importantly, I want to you also write out your thinking process- especially for the questions you do NOT know the answer to. Can you eliminate any of the answers? How? And how did you search for the correct answer? Did you search the QUESTION, or did you search the possible answers?

Write it out! Be complete. A good paragraph per answer is what we are after here…

• Use Google AND Bing and at least 2 other search engines... any search engine you desire. In your paragraphs, write down which search engine you used.

• Use Search Terms that make sense. Do NOT just type/copy the entire question. Use Search Terms. Use search terms that make sense. In your paragraph, write down what search terms you used.

• Use Advanced Search methods, or at least look for .edu sites, .gov sites and .com sites. At LEAST these 3 types of sites. You can have others, such as .org and .net. In your paragraph, write down how you searched for different domains (such as .edu, .gov .com, etc. Those are called “domains”.)

• And... write down the correct answer in the paragraph. Perhaps that is the last sentence in your paragraph.

I’m going to use the search engine Google. I am going to use this search engine because it’s easy to use. I think the correct answer is c but I don’t know the answer. I am going to use the key words Bermuda, Triangle, Points. I typed the key words into the search box but the words jumped up into a different box then I scrolled through the snippets and decided to look at the Wikipedia on that page I found a map with the correct answers. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bermuda_Triangle the correct answer is C. Miami, Bermuda, Puerto Rico.

2. Recife is the popular, pretty capital of Pernambuco state in what country?

I am going to use a different search engine this time and I have decided to use Bing. I am going to use this one because I like looking at all the background pictures. I think the correct answer is C because it sounds like a Brazilian name. I’m going to use the key words Pernambuco, Capital, Recife. Of the six thousand results I’m going to scroll through the first page of snippets and pick http://www.britannica.com/place/Pernambuco. The correct answer is C. Brazil

3. Historic Nara, Japan, celebrates a huge anniversary in 2010. How old is the country’s first capital city?

I am going to use a different search engine again this time I have decided to use quick I’m going to use this one because Mr.Woolner told me to. I am going to use the key words Nara, japan. captile city. I think the answer is b I’m just guessing though. I scrolled throught the snippits and I selected http://web-japan.org/atlas/historical/his12.html the correct answer is b. 1,300 years (in 2010)

I am going to use another different search engine this time I have decided to use duckduckgo im going to use this one because I like the name. I think the awnser is b because I remember reading an article in 6^th grade about it. I am going to use the key words Northern, Pacific, Gyre. We are going do this question in a very very very very different way. We are going to use 4 different search engine Google Bing DuckDuckGo and ixquick. I have no idea what the answer is. I am going to use the key words Hagia Sophie. As I typed in google, bing, and duckduckgo diferent things started popping up but ixquick did not. Google, Bing, and DuckDuckGo came up with a Wikipedia and ixquick did not obviously ixquick is a lot more private. After scrolling through the first page of snippets I picked http://www.livescience.com/27574-hagia-sophia.html the correct answer is a
