On our second day at Mount Cardigan, we hiked up Firescrew, crossed the ssaddle between Firescrew and Cardigan, then hiked down Cardigan. We got up at 7:30 for breakfast, and we had eggs and muffins then everyone made their lunches. The ORT was 0.5 pounds, half what our goal was. After, we had fifteen minutes to be ready and in our group meeting spots. Tabby had us meet in the mud room and then we headed out to Firescrew. We took three plotting stops on the way up and we had to get each done in a specific amount of time, otherwise we had to do another one. As we got closer to the top, more cairns appeared, also helping us to stay on track. At the top, we got to take in the view (which was amazing) and could sketch if we wanted. We stayed there for about 10 minutes, then headed across the saddle. We jumped over puddles, slid down hills and pretty much had to crawl across some rocks because it was so steep. The final stretch of it wasn't bad though, only having to walk up the rock that covered Cardigan's summit. Cardigan's summit had a massive fire tower and we were the second group to get there. It was windier than anywhere else we'd hiked all day and chilly. Just about everyone ended up putting on many other layers and a windbreaker. All of us had to sketch something or take a rubbing. I rubbed one of the medallions and it came out really dark. On the way back down, 2 groups went one way the 2 went the other. I was shedding layers and adding layers while going up and down, showing that the mountains have regions of different air temperatures. At the end, I was in 2 layers and sweating. Inside, we talked about our plots and sketches then got released once again, for free time. It was the same as the previous day and we had tacos for dinner with sundaes for dessert. Everyone layered up after and headed outside for the fire and skits, while also attempting to listen for owls. Once again, Mr. Woolner read story about nature and then sent us up to our rooms. We were to get up at the same time and my group had to set up breakfast.
