We woke on Tuesday to the pounding of rain on the roof, and knew it was going to be miserable. Steaming mugs of hot chocolate chased away the sleepiness, and French toast doused in powdered sugar fueled our stomachs for another day of adventure. This time, a pond study. We donned our raincoats and rain pants, and made our way down to the pond, where we found everything from salamanders to dragonfly nymphs. Tabby kept our spirits up with fun facts and jokes, and we ate lunch in the library. The final Theme of Geography, human/environment interaction, was exercised during the storm. Because it was raining, we were forced to alter our plans and hiking attire around the environment. After eating, the rain had subsided, so we went on a short nature walk. We conducted another plot study to compare to the first, then talked and laughed all the way back. To everyone's regret, it was then time to pack up. When all of the luggage was back in the trailer, we said goodbye to the instructors who had taught us so much, took pictures to commemorate the trip, and boarded the bus back to Hopkinton. Phones and skinny jeans have long since replaced the hiking pants and compasses, but we will always remember our time spent on the mountain.
