Day Two

This is a sketch of a maple leaf.

The second day of the Cardigan trip was the day that we accomplished the most. On day two, we had hiked up two mountains, Firescrew and Mount Cardigan. While hiking up Firescrew, our group conducted some plot studies. We also sketched a lot of different trees and leaves. Each time we sketched, we also used a GPS to find the latitude and longitude, and we also used an infrared thermometer to find the ground temperature. Interestingly enough, the ground temperature at the top of the mountain was warmer than the bottom, although the air temperature was cooler. The view was also very beautiful at the top of firescrew. Once we had made it to the top of Cardigan, we did some rubbings of words that had been carved into the mountain. I had noticed while we were hiking on the mountains that that there were different region-like zones on the mountains. For example, on the lower part of the mountain, it was mostly all deciduous trees. Later, at around the middle point, there were mixed forests, and at the top, it was mostly just pine and spruce trees.
