This is a quiz that was found in the Sunday January 3 2010 Concord Monitor newspaper…. Answers are there, too. You need to read the question, and… if you KNOW the correct answer, that’s good… but you must still VERIFY that correct answer. And write out your source for that correct answer. And, MOST importantly, I want to you also write out your thinking process- especially for the questions you do NOT know the answer to. Can you eliminate any of the answers? How? And how did you search for the correct answer? Did you search the QUESTION, or did you search the possible answers?
Write it out! Be complete. A good paragraph per answer is what we are after here…

1. What are the three places that make up the points of the Bermuda Triangle?
I am going to use Bing for this problem. I am going to use this search engine because I just feel like it. I do not know the answer… but soon I will, thanks to Bing. This is what I searched on Bing “Bermuda triangle location”. Several websites showed up, I chose http://www.bermuda-attractions.com/bermuda2_00004f.htm, which was at the top of the page. After just looking at a picture labeling the Bermuda triangle I found the answer. The answer is:
C. Miami, Bermuda, and Puerto Rico
For this question I am going to use Dogpile. I am using this search engine because I have already used Bing and the name of this search engine intrigues me. I think the answer might be A. Italy, but I do not really know. I searched “Pernambuco location” and a lot of junk came up. After scrolling down I saw the link https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pernambuco , after reading just the first sentence I found the answer. The answer is:
C. Brazil
For this question I am going to use google. I want to use google because I think google might have some good results. I think that the answer is B.1300 because 4,000 years just seems like too many years. I searched “Nara, japan anniversary 2010”. The search came up with 444,000 results. As I looked through the snippets I saw one that had the answer right in the link and clicked on it http://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2010/02/06/national/nara-fears-1300th-anniversary-flop/#.VugctFUrIdU right in the first sentence of the website was the answer. The answer is:
B. 1,300
I am going to use DuckDuckGo. I want to use DuckDuckGo because I have never heard of it before. I think the answer is B. a giant debris field of garbage trapped in a spinning circle because I do know that there is a giant “garbage whirlpool” out in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. I started to type “Northern Pacific Gyre” and the word “trash” appeared next to it, so I clicked on it. A lot of links came up and I clicked on http://www.earthday.org/2014/07/07/north-pacific-trash-gyre/ , after scrolling down I read that “the gyre is currently the largest landfill in the world”. So logically, the answer is:
B. A giant debris field of garbage trapped in a spinning circle
For this question I am going to compare 4 different search
engines. I am doing this because Mr. Woolner is making me do it. I first
started with Ixquick. As I typed “Hagia Sophia” nothing came up before hitting
“search”, but after hitting “search” many sources came up. I moved on to Bing,
as I typed “Hagia Sophia” things started popping up, a snippet even came up, I
hit the search button and 603,000 sources and even a few pictures popped up. I
went to DuckDuckGo next, and typed in “Hagia Sophia”. After just typing “Hagia”
the key words “Hagia Sophia” started being offered to me. Many snippets came up
but there was nothing telling me how many search results there were. In Google,
after just typing “hag” the key words “Hagia Sophia” were being offered to me.
After hitting search, 7,290,000 search results came up. I clicked on the link http://www.hagiasophia.com/ and after
reading the first paragraph I fdound the answer. The
answer is:
I am going to do an advanced search for this question. I am going to try to limit the domain, .org, .com, .gov, .edu, etc. I am using google because I really like google. I searched “Kampar River site:*.edu” Only .edu sites came up. So instead of thousands (maybe millions) of sites coming up, only 1,480 sites came up. Many of the sites were not what I wanted, so I changed the .edu to .org, 14,100 results came up. On the fourth site being shown https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kampar it says that the answer is:
I am going to do an advanced search for this question. I am going to use google because google is my favorite search engine. I honestly have no idea what the answer is. I typed in the key words “Devonshire location site:*.org” and 113,000 results popped up. I saw and clicked on a Wikipedia snippet that had the answer right on it https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Devon and after reading a few sentences I found that the answer is:
I am going to do an advanced search for this question. I am going to use google
because google is my favorite search engine. I think the answer might be B. Mountain range in New York
State, but I am just guessing. I typed in the key words “Adirondacks site:*.org”. 1,250,000 search results come up.
The first snippet caught my eye, so I clicked on it http://visitadirondacks.com/ , after
reading a little bit I found that I was right and the answer is:
B. Mountain range in New York State
I am going to do an advanced search for this question. I am going to use google because google is my favorite search engine. I think the answer is A. The West Indies, because I vaguely remember doing a few reading check questions on the Caribbean. I typed in the key words “Caribbean west indies site:*.org”. 1,620,000 results came up. After just reading the first snippet that came up https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/West_Indies I found the answer. The answer is A. The West Indies
I am going to do an advanced search for this question. I am going to use google because google is my favorite search engine. To be honest, I have no idea of what the answer is. I searched the key words “Galapagos islands world map” and an image came up. I went to the images’ web page http://paolomiandcorygalapagos.blogspot.com/2015/09/reference-map-of-galapagos.html and found the answer. The answer is
A. Quito, Ecuador
