This is a quiz that was found in the Sunday January 3 2010 Concord Monitor newspaper…. Answers are there, too.  You need to read the question, and… if you KNOW the correct answer, that’s good… but you must still VERIFY that correct answer.  And write out your source for that correct answer.  And, MOST importantly, I want to you also write out your thinking process- especially for the questions you do NOT know the answer to.  Can you eliminate any of the answers?  How?   And how did you search for the correct answer?  Did you search the QUESTION, or did you search the possible answers? 

Write it out!  Be complete.  A good paragraph per answer is what we are after here…

• Use Google AND  Bing and at least 2 other search engines... any search engine you desire.  In your paragraphs, write down which search engine you used. 

• Use Search Terms that make sense.  Do NOT just type/copy the entire question.  Use Search Terms.  Use search terms that make sense.  In your paragraph, write down what search terms you used.

• Use Advanced Search methods, or at least look for .edu sites,  .gov sites   and   .com sites.  At LEAST these 3 types of sites.  You can have others, such as   .org    and    .net.    In your paragraph, write down how you searched for different domains (such as .edu, .gov .com,   etc.   Those are called “domains”.)

• And... write down the correct answer in the paragraph.  Perhaps that is the last sentence in your paragraph.

I am going to use this search engine Google. Because I use it all the time and I am so use to it. I think the correct answer is a because I am just making a guess. Bermuda triangle location. I notice as I typed the search engine knew the key words and the answer appeared even though I was not finished. I looked at the whole website and found the answer. http://oceanservice.noaa.gov/facts/bermudatri.html I used this website to find my answer and it was C Miami, Bermunda,Puerto rico.

2. Recife is the popular, pretty capital of Pernambuco state in what country?

a. Italy

b. Spain

c. Brazil

I am going to use a different search engine this time I think I am going to use bling.  Because I have never used bling before and I am trying to use a new one. I know the correct answer is brazil, because of the wood. Neither Italy or Spain have wood. Capital Pernambuco. As I was typing my key words In It knew what the key words were. 3. Historic Nara, Japan, celebrates a huge anniversary in 2010.  How old is the country’s first capital city?

a. 570 years  (in 2010)

I am going to use a different search engine and this one does not keep track of anything. The one I am going to use is ixquick.com. I am going to use this because mr. woolner said to. The key words that I am going to use is nara, japan. I think the answer is b. I notice that when I am typing nothing happen. When you hit enter a lot of snipits come up. I use the lonely star and I did not find the answer but I had to do the math and the correct answer is B. The website that I used was https://www.lonelyplanet.com/japan/kansai/nara.

4. The Northern Pacific Gyre lies in the Pacific Ocean between Japan and the west coast of the United States. What does it contain?

And for the fourth question I will use another search engine. I am going to use www.webclawer.com because I never used this one before. The key words that  I am going to use are northern pacific gryro. I think I am going to make a guess at  the answer that I am going to say is A. The website that I used was http://science.howstuffworks.com/environmental/earth/oceanography/great-pacific-garbage-patch.htm I found the answer to the Question is B.

5. This year (in 2010)  a mosaic of an angel was discovered under the floor of the Hagia Sophia.  Where and what is the Hagia Sophia?

a. Istanbul, Turkey.  It’s a museum that previously was a Byzantine Christian Church and a mosque.

b. Luxembourg.  It’s a cathedral built to honor St. Sophia, the country’s patron saint.

c. Mexico City.  It’s a traditional market where the image of the angel is said to have healing powers.

I am going to do this very very differently. I am going to use 4 search engines. I am going to use  dogpile,duckduckgo, google, bing. I do not know the answer. I wil use the search terms hagia Sophia. As I typed in duckduckgo it came up with different things. Bling did the same thing as duckduckgo. And bling did the same thing. And google did the same thing to.  The website that I used was https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hagia_Sophia and I have found the answer that is A.

6. If you want to go whitewater rafting on the Kampar River, where do you have to go?

a. Wheeling, West Virginia.

b. Gopeng, Malaysia

We will use a advance search engine. And I will use google. The key word that I will use is Kampar river site * edu. The answer I think it is c. I used an advanced search by typing in site* edu. As I was typing in the key words it knew what I was going to type. The link that I used was https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kampar_River and I found the right answer. The answer is B and I got it correct. One of the things that I was typing in it came up with a site In Wikipedia.

7. Most tourists love Devonshire cream tea – scones, clotted cream and raspberry jam with tea.  But where in England is Devonshire?

a. In dairy country east of London

b. Southwest England

c. Near the Scottish border

I will be using an advanced search engine. The search engine that I am going to use is Bing.  The reason that I am going to use bling is I am for miler with. The key words that I am going to be using is where is Devonshire. As I typed in my key words a lot of other searches that other people have searched for. The website that I found the right answer was https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Devon and the correct answer is C. All that came up is Wikipedia came up all over the place.

8. What and where are the Adirondacks?

a. The Amish region in Indiana where craftsmen make chairs

b. Mountain range in New York state

c. American Indian reservations in the Florida Everglades

I will be using an advance search engine. The search engine that I will be using is mamma. The reason that I am going to use mamma is because I have never used this on before and trying  out a new one. The key words that I am going to use are where are the Adirondacks. As I typed nothing had came up so this is a private search  engine that does not keep track of you searches. I am going to guess the answer that I think it is and I think it is B. The website I went to find out what the correct answer is http://www.pbs.org/program/adirondacks/.com. The correct answer is B so I was correct.

9. Most people just call the region the Caribbean, but what is its formal name?

b. The East Indies

c. The South Indies

I will be using a different advanced search engine. The search engine that I will be using is cha cha.  The reason that I will be using cha cha  is  because I have never used that search engine before. The key words that I will be using to find the correct answer what is the formal name of the Caribbean. I think the correct answer is b. As I typed in my key words nothing came up. I will be using a different  advance search engine. The scarch engine that I will be using is dogpile. The reason that I will be using dogpile is because I am formilar with it. The key words that I will be using is who vist Galapagos island leave for their trip from what city.
