This is a quiz that was found in the Sunday January 3 2010 Concord Monitor newspaper…. Answers are there, too.  You need to read the question, and… if you KNOW the correct answer, that’s good… but you must still VERIFY that correct answer.  And write out your source for that correct answer.  And, MOST importantly, I want to you also write out your thinking process- especially for the questions you do NOT know the answer to.  Can you eliminate any of the answers?  How?   And how did you search for the correct answer?  Did you search the QUESTION, or did you search the possible answers?

Write it out!  Be complete.  A good paragraph per answer is what we are after here…

    1. Bahamas, Bermuda, and Puerto Rico
    2. Bermuda, Puerto Rico, and Tortola
    3. Miami, Bermuda, Puerto Rico

I am going to use the search engine google. I am going to use the search engine because I like to look at the images of the day that they use now and they stole them from mr woolner who actual thought up the idea first yes they stole it. I think that the answer is c because a and b just don’t look right. I am going to use the key words Bermuda triangle and location. I typed the key words into the word box but the words jumped up in to a different box then I scrolled through the snippets and decided to look at the .gov page on that page I found a map with the correct answer. The correct answer is C. http://oceanservice.noaa.gov/facts/bermudatri.html the correct answer is Miami, Bermuda and Puerto Rico

I am going to use a different search engine this time I am going to use www.bing.com I am going to use this one because I heard that that it is the second most popular search engine in the solar system. I will use the search terms Pernambuco and capital. Interesting as soon as I typed Pernambuco other terms started filling in automatically and I guess the search engine knows what I was going to type next. Of the 12.000,000 results I scrolled through the first page of snippets. And selected the Britannica site.  http://www.britannica.com/place/Pernambuco  and the correct answer is C brazil

  1. Historic Nara, Japan, celebrates a huge anniversary in 2010.  How old is the country’s first capital city?

I will use ANOTHER kind of search engine….. www.ixquick.com I am going to try this one because Mr. Woolner told me to. I am going to use the search terms Nara and Japan and capital city. I think that the answer might be B because it is an old number but not very old. As I was typing my search terms nothing popped up on the screen. After scrolling through the snippets carefully…. I selected the one that had an answer in it. The answer is B its 1300 years old.

  1. This year (in 2010)  a mosaic of an angel was discovered under the floor of the Hagia Sophia.  Where and what is the Hagia Sophia?

    1. Istanbul, Turkey.  It’s a museum that previously was a Byzantine Christian Church and a mosque.
    2. Luxembourg.  It’s a cathedral built to honor St. Sophia, the country’s patron saint.
    3. Mexico City.  It’s a traditional market where the image of the angel is said to have healing powers.

We are going to do this question very very very very different way. We are going to use google, web crawler, duck duck go and I think that I will use ixsquick.com…I have no idea what the answer. Some search terms that I might use the search terms hagia Sophia…  as I typed in duck duck go search terms started to pop up apparently it does track you… ixsquick gave me a travel website first and further down there are more websites from Wikipedia and hotel bookings. In web crawler it first came up with tour bookings and further down the page it came up with more Wikipedia and fun facts and history. In duck duck go all the sites were bookings for hotels or tours of the place and one or two Wikipedia’s. And google got 7,209,000 results came up for it a lot were websites and bookings. In the end I found out that the answer is A.

  1. If you want to go whitewater rafting on the Kampar River, where do you have to go?

    1. Wheeling, West Virginia.
    2. Gopeng, Malaysia
    3. Johannesburg, South Africa

We are about to start 6. We are going to do something different. We are going to limit the search using site; tricks. So search terms that I am using is Kampar River and maybe whitewater rafting. What I am going to use for a search engine is duck duck go. But when I typed in words in duck duck go words started to pop up but it does not track me. While searching those I am going to use something at the end of my sentence and what I will be typing is site;*.org. What that does is that it makes it so that it makes it so that it is for education use only. And what came up for an answer that I had got is B Gopeng Malaysia

  1. Most tourists love Devonshire cream tea – scones, clotted cream and raspberry jam with tea.  But where in England is Devonshire?

    2. Southwest England
    3. Near the Scottish border

I am about to start number 7. I am going to use something just like last time in my number 6 paragraph. And what I am doing is going to after every search type in site;.*.org. The reason why I am doing this is because Mr. Woolner told us to do them for the rest of the searches and that if we type that in after every single search it brings up educational uses only that we can use. Some search terms that I might use is Devonshire or England or something like that.  The search engine that I will be using to try and find the answer is BING. What I found out In Bing is that the answer for the question is B southwest England.

    1. The Amish region in Indiana where craftsmen make chairs
    2. Mountain range in New York state
    3. American Indian reservations in the Florida Everglades

I am about to start number 8. I going to use something kind of like last time in my number 6 and 7 paragph. And what I am going to do after every single search is that I am going to type in site;.*.org. The reason why I might do something like this is because if we type this in after every single search that I do it will bring up educational uses only. And the main reason why I am doing the paragraphs is because Mr. Woolner told us to do it. But in this case some search words that I might just use for this is something like Adirondacks or what and where or something like that. The search engine that I will be using is google. Also funny when I was typing my words jumped to the top of the page and it came up with what I was going to type. What I found on google was that it is a Mountain range in New York State. So the answer is B it is a Mountain range in New York State.

    1. The West Indies
    2. The East Indies

Once again I am going to start to begin number 9. And what I am going to do for this one is the same thing I did for the sixth seventh and the eighth one I am going to type in site;.*.org after every single search I am doing it because it brings up educational uses only and that Mr. woolner told us to. Some search terms that I might just is something like Caribbean or formal name or just something like that. The search engine that I might just use is web crawler and when I was typing in web crawler what it had come up for an answer is A The West Indies

    3. Yosemite

Last but no least this is my last paragraph. In this paragraph what I am going to use for a search engine is Bing. And In Bing some search words that I might use is United States first national park

Or something like that.  In Bing when I looked it up I said United States’ first national park and when I did it came up with tours and hotel bookings and stuff like that. The reason why I am doing this is because Mr. Woolner told me to. And when I scrolled down a little bit I was able to look at a link and be able to find out that It is Yellowstone park so B and then I went to another source and and that said yellow stone park. SO yes the answer is B yellow Stone Park.
