Reading Check-(on pg214)-What formed the islands of the West Indies?
Since the islands are part of a underwater chain, many of the islands were formed by volcanos since the islands are mountains. Some of the other islands were formed because they are limestone mountains and they start out on the ocean floor and then they up pushed up closer to the surface because of the pressure from the Earth's crust. Some of the islands like Puerto Rico, Cuba and Jamaica are continental islands which means that they are part of the Earth's crust.

Cuba is different from all of the other countries in the West Indies because it has a government that is based on the ideas of communism.
