Day 2 at Mount Cardigan

This is something we saw at the summit of Firescrew.

Day 2

The day began by waking up, getting dressed and heading down to meet with the group leader. Then met in the living room to be seated for breakfast. After breakfast, we got in our hiking clothes and prepared our hiking stuff and met with our group leader again. Our group leader, Beckah talked about the plan for the day. We were hiking up Firescrew over the ridge to Cardigan and down Cardigan. We went outside and did a relay activity where we learned about biotic and abiotic things. We then set off for our hike.

We went hiking for a while then stopped to do plot study #1.

As hiking you had to take trails and sometimes even walk really close to the edge of the path to avoid puddles. We also had to walk on wooden plankes and over bridges. This is known as human environmental interaction. Our plot studies were to see which trees were in our plots. After we counted, we sketched something in our plot and wrote down the longitude and latitude. We then continued on our hike. We stopped halfway between alley way and the summit of Firescrew and sketched again. As we were hiking we took off some layers. I had to take off my rain pants and rain jacket. We went past some glacial erratics, some waterfalls and streams. We started up the rocky part of the trail and saw a huge quartz boulder. From there we went to the summit of Firescrew and sketched. We ate lunch on Firescrew and then continued on our hike. About halfway through the ridge to Cardigan we did another plot study and found that there were a lot fewer trees. There were only two specific types: spruce and balsam fir. We reached the summit of Cardigan and stopped for a water break. We took a group photo. It was cold and very windy at the summit of Cardigan. On the way down we went down a rocky path and a grassy ski trail. When we reached the main trail we played camouflage and I was one of the winners. We reached the lodge and went to the mudroom and took off our boots. We met in our group and talked about what we had done. Then we had free time. After our free time we talked about ort and how to prevent orit. We talked about how much of earth's resources it takes to produce and transport food. We ate dinner with our friends. We went outside and had a campfire and we performed skits.
