Day One

Day one on the Cardigan trip was very interesting. When we first showed up, the lodge was not ready for us yet. While we waited for the people to clean up, we played a couple games with the counselors. One of the games was where each person in your group of five to six people got a number. Groups with five people had one person take two numbers. When your number was called, you must run around the circle and through your team's legs. Once you have done that you run and try and grab a shoe that was in the center. Once we were done playing the games, we went inside and set up our rooms. Then we all went outside and found out our group counselor and chaperones and went for a hike. On the hike, we found a stream. We decided to take our stream study right away. First we looked around and sketched. Then we started to measure 50 ft. downstream. We built Cairns for the beginning mark halfway mark and the end. We put an orange in the water at the start and started a stopwatch. This will tell how fast the water is moving. We took three samples of water. One from a small waterfall, one from the middle of the stream, and one from a stillwater area. The water from the waterfall is a sign of movement. We used special glass tubes that suck the water out of the beaker when you break the tip of it. The water in the glass tube turns a shade of blue. According to a chart we can compare the shades of blue to see what oxygen level the water is in three different places. In that stream, I caught a frog, we found a dead mouse, and we found a baby trout. When we got back on the hike, we all hung out until we got ready to go on a night hike. On the night hike we sat alone and listened to the sounds around us. Then we all to a marker and write what color we thought it was. When we got back everyone got ready for bed and we went outside to see the lunar eclipse. Mr.Woolner read some stories and we all went to sleep. Altogether we had a pretty good day
