This is a quiz that was found in the Sunday January 3 2010 Concord Monitor newspaper…. Answers are there, too.  You need to read the question, and… if you KNOW the correct answer, that’s good… but you must still VERIFY that correct answer.  And write out your source for that correct answer.  And, MOST importantly, I want to you also write out your thinking process- especially for the questions you do NOT know the answer to.  Can you eliminate any of the answers?  How?   And how did you search for the correct answer?  Did you search the QUESTION, or did you search the possible answers?

I am going to use the dog pile search engine because it has a cool name. I think the answer is Bahamas, Bermuda, and Puerto Rico. I used the search terms Bemuda, and triangle, and location. Several websites were listed………..snippets…. I selected History.com and found the answer. The answer is actually c.

I am going to use a different search engine this time……. I think I will try to use Bing. My guess is Brazil. Im going to use the search term Pernambuco and capital. In the search engine bing, as soon as I started typing per, the answer came up. Scrolling page to page I found the site, “Inside Brazil”. The answer was Brazil and here is the link.

I am going to use duck duck go for my search engine. I am going to use this one because I love the name and I haven’t used it yet. I am going to guess c because Japan has a lot, lot, lot of history. As I typed in duck duck go, I noticed that what I wanted didn’t pop up before I finished typing in “Nara, Japan history”. I guessed wrong, the answer is b. I found the answer at Japan atlas. I am going to use 4 search engines to compare them. The 4 search engines I am using is google, dogpile, bing, and yahoo. I am using these spefic search engines because I think there the most reliable. Also, we are going to compare the results we got. In every search engine except Yahoo it came up after I said Hagia. Maybe the keep track of what I search or something. So I clicked enter for all of the search engines, and the first one I looked at was Dogpile. At first, I saw ads but then I scrolled down and found a few sites. The one I decided to use is called Hagia Sophia. That’s what I found for all of them. Heres the links.

I am going to use google. We are going to use a advanced search this time. We are going to try limiting the domain. Org, net, com edu gov. My guess is that’s it c. I used the advanced search term Kamper river Malaysia. It turns out that its actually b. It took me a little bit to find it on the search engine google. The most effective domain was .com.
