This is an image of a Yellow Birch tree I sketched.
My first day at Mount Cardigan lodge and mountain was Sunday September 27th, we arrived at the lodge at about ten a.m., and played some games, changed clothing (if needed), ate lunch and left in our hiking groups at about one p.m., and my hiking group was with Hope as our instructor, we left for the Nature Trail to do a stream study. We hiked through the Nature Trail until we arrived at the stream, Hope told us to explore, sketch and write down questions we had about the stream. My hiking group and I noticed that the rocks were mossy, and slippery, and at the surface of the water were many waterbugs, trying to escape our nets and catching small water creature tools. I thought that the stream study showed the theme of geography movement because of all the moving water and life under the water. Next we began to collect information like water depth, temperature, and oxygen level of the water, and wrapped up our stream study, and began to share what we explored, sketched, and shared our questions. At around half an hour past four, we left the stream and hiked the Nature Trail back to the lodge, freetime began and different things happened, people took showers, people played outside or people stayed inside to hang out. At six p.m. freetime ended and dinner started, after everyone had their share of food, we got our hiking gear on again and met with our groups for the night hike. At seven fifteen my group and I went out to the right of the lodge to go through a trail in the woods, in complete darkness (except for the moon) to listen to all the nocturnal animals in the woods. After leaving the wooded trail we sketched the moon on the steep hill then headed back to the lodge, where Mr. Woolner read a story about Blackbeard (a pirate), then we went off to bed. I noticed lots of movement on day one, because of the stream study and the night hike.
This is a picture of the full moon at Cardigan the first night.
This is a picture of an activity we did in the woods.
