On day 3 at Cardigan, we got up at 7:00am again, just as we had the day before. After we got dressed and ready, we went down to breakfast. We had pancakes, sausage, melon and orange juice. It was really good. After that, we went back up to get ready for more hiking around the lodge.

When we were done, we went outside to meet with Becca, our tour guide, and the rest of our group. My group met on the porch. Becca gave each of us a compass to use. We set out on a special trail made for us so that we could use our compasses and follow the directions. Even though we followed the directions with our compass it was not leading us to the right spot. Becca told us that we did follow the directions correctly with our compass but, the trail must have been an old one. We could not find what we were looking for, after looking for a long time, because it must have been moved and the trail was not updated. We did not find anything but we sure did a lot of movement. We walked in various directions along the trail using our compass.

Because the compass trail did not work, we sat down and did a sketch of a tree before setting out on the last trail that we were going to hike on our trip.

When we were finished sketching, we began our hike. I was the leader for our group that day. When we were about halfway up the trail, it began to pour! I quickly dug my raincoat out of my backpack and slipped it on to try to stay dry. We stopped for about 10 minutes while everyone put their rain gear on. Then we continued hiking along the trail in the rain. It was pretty slippery on the rocks. I actually slipped on one of them and got a small cut on my hand when I fell.

When we got to the end of the trail, we stopped to play a game. It was a game that showed how all things in nature are connected. We demonstrated this by joining hands with the other members of our group to show how things are connected and then we had to try to untangle ourselves without letting go! It was really fun to do but, it was difficult. We played 3 separate rounds of this game. Then it was time to eat lunch. I was very hungry after hiking!

For lunch I ate a turkey, cheese, lettuce, tomato and onion sandwich on white bread. I also ate an orange, carrots, celery and a delicious cookie. Then I washed it all down with some water. Since it was still raining, I sat down on a log, put my backpack on my lap and tried to hide my sandwich under my bag to keep it from getting soggy. This seemed to work pretty well and I happily ate my lunch. After finishing our lunch it was time to head back on the trail to the lodge.

We were almost back to the lodge when Becca had us stop and sit down while she read us a story called The Lorax. While she was reading we sketched in our journals. I sketched the bottom of a tree that was right in front of me. I thought it looked like a neat thing to sketch. Once the story was finished we continued back to the lodge.

When we got there, all 3 of the other groups were inside nice and dry and toasty warm! We were cold and wet. I quickly changed into my dry pants and then it was time to go home. We loaded onto the bus and started for home. I was so tired from our trip that I fell asleep on the bus. Overall, I had an AWESOME time at Mount Cardigan!!
