Title: Concord monitor quiz, searching project.
Sub-title- A Project about “Searching” for the Correct Information.
Name= Bree H (is swag).
Date= 3/11/16
Color Group= Blue
This is a quiz that was found in the Sunday January 3 2010 Concord Monitor newspaper…. Answers are there, too. You need to read the question, and… if you KNOW the correct answer, that’s good… but you must still VERIFY that correct answer. And write out your source for that correct answer. And, MOST importantly, I want to you also write out your thinking process- especially for the questions you do NOT know the answer to. Can you eliminate any of the answers? How? And how did you search for the correct answer? Did you search the QUESTION, or did you search the possible answers?
Write it out! Be complete. A good paragraph per answer is what we are after here…

1. What are the three places that make up the points of the Bermuda Triangle?
I am going to use the Google search engine, because I personally like it the best and also because I like the way it runs and looks. I am not positive but I think Steven was right when he said A) Bahamas, Bermuda, and Puerto Rico although I’m still going to check up on that using the key words, Bermuda Triangle and location.
After searching for the answer I have discovered that the answer is C) Miami, Bermuda, and Puerto Rico. I figured this out by looking at the google pop up (www.bermuda-attractions.com/bermuda2_00004f.htm), and then double checking it through google maps. I also checked up on this answer through wiki.
I do not know the answer, and although my guess is C) Brazil I am going to check this through dogpile. I’m using the key words Recife and location. When I type these words into dogpile about five snpiiets pop up and they are all adds having to do with Recife, but when I scroll down a bit there are a bunch of .com’s so I chose one (http://www.weather-forecast.com/locations/Recife ) it had a google map of Brazil and a paragraph describing the climate of Brazil.
I’m going to use duckduckgo.com as my search engine because it has a funky name. I’m going to guess the b) is the answer because comparing to the US (200 years) Japan is much older than us, but not quite ancient. . I’m also choosing to use the key words Nara, Japan, and age to find the answer. Searching with these I can see that there aren’t very many adds but, it also doesn’t tell you how many ‘snippets’ popped up. Going to this website (http://www.thefinertimes.com/Middle-Ages/japan-in-the-middle-ages.html ), it gives me the date 710, which if I do the math (which I didn’t, Steven did) I can see that this location was relocated to Nara 1,300 years ago (from 2010) which is answer B).
I googled search engines and then from there decided to use wow.com. I’m guessing the answer is a) because I’m not sure and I have no idea what the answer is so this is my first guess. When I go into wow.com I notice that it looks like a news website and there are little blogs going off into different topics, but when I type into the search bar the key words pacific gyre a bunch of images pop up and next to them a small info, and when I click on (http://www.truth-out.org/news/item/35190-more-plastic-than-fish-in-oceans-by-2050-helps-drive-calls-for-reduced-plastic-use ) this it says that Northern Pacific is basically a trash island.
I’m going to compare using four
different websites (google, duckduckgo, awol search, and ixquick).
I think the answer is a) because I studied Luxembourg and Hagia Sophia doesn’t sound familiar and Mexico city doesn’t sound right either. Searching in google, with
the key words Hagia Sophia location, I see right away
immediate results, Sultanahmet Mh., Ayasofya Meydanı,
Fatih/İstanbul, Turkey is the google pop up that
shows up. The snippet does not have a url,
it is just a imidiate answer. Next I used ixquick, using the same key words I noticed that no words poped up and there was nothing ‘offered to me’ until I hit
enter. Going into the url (http://famouswonders.com/hagia-sophia-in-istanbul/
) I can see a large paragraph and some pictures showing me that it is in fact
in Istanbul, Turkey. Next, going into awol search I see that nothing pops up, and then when
I hit enter, only 3 snippets come up and all of the above are hotels and or
adds. Lastly going into duckduckgo the key words
automatically pop up. I also notice that there are a large variety of domains
come up. Clicking on (http://www.livescience.com/27574-hagia-sophia.html
) url I notice a large
picture and a captain saying Istanbul, Turkey.
I think the answer is C) near the Scottish border, and I’m going to find out if this is correct or not using the advanced searchin google, with a .edu. Looking at all the snippets I can see that all the snippets have a caption describing the websiter and most mention Scotland in there somewhere. Going into (https://www.unc.edu/~rowlett/lighthouse/engsw.htm ) I see that it is actually near the southwest border, by Cornwall and that there are a lot of light houses on the border.
I think its B) New York and to see if this is right I’m going to google it. Searching through google I can see that immediately things start popping up and trying to put words into my mouth. When I get into google there is a wiki pop up but ignoring it and moving down I see (http://visitadirondacks.com/ ) a url and when I click into there is a large picture and then a paragraph describing the climate and mentioning the location which is in fact in New York.
Looking onto bing I am going to use the key words formal name and Caribbean to search for the answer. I think the answer is A) and searching bing I can see that once again it tries to speak for me and then when I hit enter there are a bunch if adds. When I click onto (http://www.caribbeancrews.com/location.html ) I can see a map and a bunch or paragraphs describing the location and how its in the west indies.
To be honest looking at this I have no idea so I’m going to guess A) Quito, Ecuador and google search it. Looking with the key words Galapagos islands cruises,
